Quick Guide to Normal Unhallowed Grave

First, this is a quick guide to the NORMAL version of the dungeon Unhallowed Grave, which you can get into with a random group from level 45 onwards. If you’re looking for help with VETERAN mode, or you want to find secret bosses, visit Xynode’s guide or Alcast’s guide. However, if you’re just looking for a single Undaunted pledge key, or the story and the skill point, or to farm a set, or even got put here for your random daily dungeon and don’t know what to do – this guide is for you! This is a SHORT guide that will ONLY focus on the crucial points for normal mode (instead of a walkthrough so detailed that you wouldn’t be able to remember the correct strategies when the time comes!) I’ve seen people leave this dungeon instantly on entering it just because “this dungeon is just AIDS” – but there is NO NEED to fear this dungeon! There are actually only two fights where you need to know two things each, and one or two more fights where you need to know one thing – and then you can breeze through this dungeon without breaking a sweat, especially as a DPS or healer. It’s even possible to “fake tank” this to a certain extent with a slightly modified DD build, but be advised that the bosses’ heavy attacks do around 13k damage THROUGH block in normal mode, so if you screw up a dodge roll or block, you’re still gonna die. However, this also means that as a DD or healer, don’t panic if the boss loses aggro on something; just dodge roll or block any heavy attack, and if the healer is on point (AND you haven’t already taken damage) you’ll live and can bring the monster to the tank so it can be taunted properly. But now : the things you need to know even if your group has properly specced toons!

Grappling hooks

In case you’ve never used a grappling bow in the game before, doing the quest will teach you to pick up the grappling bow, aim at the grappling points, and use it to get across the chasms that divide up the dungeons. This bow is also crucial in both the boss fights that first timers in the dungeons often struggle with.

First Boss, Hakgrym the Howler: Trash the totem

This boss really isn’t too hard even if you don’t know what you’re doing, but when the Woeful Totem spawns, it does do more damage the longer it’s up, so make a point of blasting it fast. Otherwise there’s nothing to worry about that you shouldn’t already know about, since you can’t get a random group for this dungeon until level 45: Don’t stand in red, dodge roll or shield+block any heavy attacks in case the boss or adds get loose, and you’ll be fine!

Second Boss Keeper of the Kiln: Activate the sigil upstairs & damage boss at the LIT sigil

When you get into the room with the “Keeper of the Kiln” boss, before the fight starts, note the grappling points upstairs. Non-tank players HAVE to grapple up there when you get the message that “Flames are rising in the vents”. It’s important to stop damaging the boss as soon as that message appears and get up there! There are three platforms; you have to find the ONE of the upstairs platforms that has a “Sigil of the forgotten” – you must activate this. Don’t worry that activating it doesn’t really seem to do anything up there and don’t worry about the adds. The important thing is that as soon as one player activates the Sigil, ONE of the four sigils DOWNSTAIRS will light up.

Now, the tank has to place the boss ON that lit sigil while the others hold back on the damage until the boss is properly placed. When the boss is standing on the sigil is when you deal damage to him. Enough damage will cause him to jam his sword into the sigil and stop the flames. That’s why you want to hold back on the damage until he’s in place, because if the sword comes down in the wrong place, the flames won’t stop and you’ll wipe. This is arguably the most important thing of all, because even if the sigil gets activated and the tank can spot the lit symbol, it only takes one yolo-ing ignoramus trying to show off his amazing DPS at the wrong time, and said ignoramus could wipe the group despite everybody else’s best efforts.

So to recap: watch for the “flames rising” mechanic, grapple up and around till one of you finds the symbol and activates it, tank brings boss to the lit symbol, then damage him there. That’s all there is to it, really – this mechanic is the only one you have to worry about in this fight (although killing the adds does help), you just have to get it done in time, then you can just nuke the boss down until the “flames are rising” again at which point you just rinse and repeat.

Third Boss, Eternal Aegis: Stack and burn

The only trick to this boss is to stack up and hug the boss real close. He does have a hard-hitting whirling red AoE circle, but there’s an “eye of the storm” inside the circle where you’ll be completely safe, so just hug the boss and let the tank hold him and the adds in place. Easy as pie!

Fourth Boss, Ondagore the Mad: Grapple out of green and hide from the scream

In this fight there are two phases you have to know what to do, and then you’ll clear the boss no problem.

The first phase or mechanic happens at around 80% boss health. The boss will start pulling in the nasty green ooze from the outer area into the central platform where you’ve been fighting him. At this point you have to grapple out to the outer area and kill adds there. It helps if the group can stick together so the healer can counter the damage from the adds, but the most important thing is to get out of the central area before the radiation there reaches lethal levels. Once all the adds are down, the boss will expel the green ooze back out to the outer area again, so now you have to get back in to the boss. This phase may happen again around 40% boss health.

The other mechanic is pretty clearly marked by four ghosts showing up and channeling an ability onto the boss. In this phase the boss will channel a huge blue explosion, and before the lethal explosion happens, you have to take shelter behind one of the pillars to be protected from the blast. You should kill the ghosts to end the lethal explosion mechanic, although at the last 20% boss health or so you could also just focus the boss – just make sure to be behind the pillars or at least get there in time for the blast.

That’s actually all there is to the dungeon – grapple out of green, hide from the scream, and then you’ll likely find that the last boss is an absolute pushover on Normal mode, so just nuke him down and claim your reward!
